Jonathon Anderson, DDS

Jonathan Anderson

Jonathan Anderson, DDS, is a practicing general dentist in Fort Collins, Colorado. He is a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is a former associate clinical professor at the University of Colorado and University of Arizona dental schools. Dr. Anderson has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Marriot School of Management. He is a former business consultant and auditor for the accounting firm Arthur Andersen LLP. He was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.


Douglas Berkey, DMD, MPH, MS

Douglas B. Berkey

Douglas Berkey, DMD, MPH, MS, is dental director for Total Longterm Care of Colorado, which provides comprehensive dental services to more than 1,400 participants across the state. He’s an American Dental Association (ADA) consultant to the Council on Access, Prevention, and Interprofessional Relations (CAPIR), and served as an ADA delegate to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO).

Since 2006, Dr. Berkey has served as a member of the Governor’s Dental Advisory Committee (Colorado). He also is a professor at the University of Colorado Denver School of Dental Medicine. Here, he received the Rocky Mountain Study Club Professor of the Year award and was chairman of the department of applied dentistry for 11 years.

Dr. Berkey serves as editor-in-chief of Dental Abstracts. He was a Pew National Dental Leadership fellow, William Fulbright Scholar finalist and recipient of the ADA Geriatric Oral Health Care Award. He has served as the Colorado delegate to the Council of Faculties at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), International/American Association for Dental Research (IADR/AADR) group president, and Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI) section vice-chair.

Cynthia Evans

Cynthia A. Evans


Cynthia Evans earned a bachelor’s of arts in journalism with a minor in economics from the University of Northern Colorado, as well as a master’s in business administration from the University of Denver. She was Xcel Energy's state vice president for Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona from 2000 to 2004. She currently serves on the boards of the UNC Foundation and the Dean’s Leadership Council at the Monfort College of Business.


John P. Hopkins

John P. Hopkins

John Hopkins retired in August 2009, as Chief Executive Officer of Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP). Over the course of his 25-year career with RMHP, John served in various leadership roles in the organization. In 2001, he was named president and CEO.

Mr. Hopkins has served as the president of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, a national organization of managed care pharmacists, and as a trustee for the Foundation for Managed Care Pharmacy. He has also participated on several other boards, including America's Health Insurance Plans and Cover Colorado. He chaired the Boards of the Colorado Association of Health Plans, the Grand Junction Economic Partnership, and the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce.

In retirement, Mr. Hopkins serves as chair of the board of LiveWell Colorado. He also sits on the boards of the John McConnell Math and Science Center of western Colorado, Western Colorado Center for the Arts, and the Colorado Trust. He continues to chair the board of the Rocky Mountain Health Plans Foundation.

Mr Hopkins holds dual bachelor degrees in pharmacy and psychology from the University of Wyoming.

Denise Kassebaum, DDS, MS

Denise K. Kassebaum, DDS, MS serves as the Dean of the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. She received her dental degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City, and her master’s in oral radiology and oral medicine from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine and a fellow of the American and International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Kassebaum completed a fellowship in the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM). She holds leadership roles in the American Dental Education Association on the Council of Deans, and chairs the Center for Educational Policy and Research Advisory Committee. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Colorado Dental Association and the Metropolitan Denver Dental Society.

Victor Lazzaro, Jr.

Victor Lazzaro

Victor Lazzaro is a managing director with two private equity firms in Denver: Volante Capital, LLC and TIVIS Capital, LLC. With more than 20 years' senior management experience in health care, he has held positions overseeing marketing, finance, administration and health care delivery. Previously, Mr. Lazzaro was president and CEO of United Healthcare Corporation - Mountain States (UHC). He is an active board member of a number of charity and business organizations. He holds a master’s of business administration in finance from the University of Southern California, and a bachelor’s of arts degree from Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania.

Mary Noonan

Mary Noonan

Mary Noonan spent 35 years as an executive in the insurance industry before joining an executive recruiting firm focused on insurance positions. She is a graduate of the University of Portland with a BA in english and received an MBA from the University of Chicago. Ms. Noonan currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Delta Dental of Colorado, and Warren Village in Denver. She is a member of The Denver Foundation’s Human Services Advisory Committee, the International Women’s Forum and the Women’s Foundation of Colorado.

B. LaRae Orullian

B. LaRae Orullian most recently served as president of Guaranty Corporation and vice chair of the Board of Directors of Guaranty Bank and Trust Company. Ms. Orullian led the formation of Women’s Bank of Denver and served as president, chief executive officer, and chair of the Board of Directors from 1977 to 1995.

She is a graduate of the ABA, American Institute of Banking and the Ohio State University Graduate School of Banking. She also was awarded a degree of doctor, Humane Letters, from Whittier College. Ms. Orullian currently serves as a member of the board of directors and chair of the Investment Committee for the Holladay Bank and Trust Company, as well as a member of the board of directors for Lange Golf Company. She recently retired as the chair of the board of directors of Frontier Airlines and as vice chair of the Audit Committee of Frontier Holdings, Inc. She is an active volunteer for organizations like Colorado Public Television, Girl Scouts of the USA and World Association of Girl Guides. She sit on the Colorado Supreme Court Discipline Hearing Board, is a member of International Women’s Forum, a board member of the Women’s Foundation of Colorado, and member of Committee of 200.

Kathryn Paul, President & CEO, Delta Dental of Colorado

Kate Paul

Kathryn Paul is president and CEO of Delta Dental of Colorado. Prior to Delta Dental, she served as president, group operations west, for Kaiser Permanente. Ms. Paul received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California and her master’s of public health from the University of California, Berkeley, where she majored in hospital administration. She also completed the Advanced Management Program in 1984 at Harvard University. Ms. Paul is the past chair of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Denver Branch. She currently serves as a director of the Colorado Trust, and is on the board of directors of COPIC, Exempla Health Care, and the Denver Art Museum. She is also an officer for the Delta Dental Plans Association.

Donald Safer, DDS, MS

Donald Safer

Donald Safer, DDS, MS, recently retired from his private endodontics practice. He’s a clinical consultant at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry and a clinical consultant at the VA Hospital. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1968 with his doctor of dental science degree, and added a master's of science in 1971. Dr. Safer received his Diplomat of the Board of Endodontics in 1975. He is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Endodontics, Ralph Sommer Study Club, Alpha Omega, Metropolitan Denver Dental Society, Rocky Mountain Endodontic Society, and Excellence In Endodontics Study Club. He is a member of Volunteer Dental Service – Morey Jr. High School - MDDS, Allied Housing board member, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation board member, and PSC Foundation member and professional consultant.

Gail Schoettler, PhD

Gail S. Schoettler

Gail Schoettler, PhD, serves on the boards of AspenBioPharma, Inc., Pepper Ball Industries, Masergy Communications, Delta Dental of Colorado, The Colorado Trust and several non-profit boards. She has been a U.S. Ambassador, Colorado’s Lieutenant Governor and State Treasurer, Douglas County school board president, and a successful businesswoman. She has a bachelor’s of arts in economics from Stanford University. Additionally, she earned both master’s and doctorate degrees in African history from the University of California. Among her many awards is the French Legion of Honor (France’s highest civilian award). An enthusiastic hiker, she conquered her fear of heights and climbed all 56 of Colorado’s mountains over 14,000 feet high.

Thomas Swain, DDS

Thomas Swain

Thomas Swain, DDS, received his bachelor’s of arts degree in 1967 from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He earned his DDS from Case Western Reserve University in 1971. After serving two years in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, he and his wife returned to Denver to begin general practice in 1973. He has been a member dentist of Delta Dental since 1973 and is a lifetime member of the American Dental Association. He has been a member of various dental study clubs and served on the board of the Park Meadows Metropolitan District during the formative period leading up to the construction of the Park Meadows Mall. He now practices with Dr. Donald Batliner and Dr. Chad Braun as co-owner of the 4th Avenue Family Dental Group in Denver.

Marilyn Taylor

Marilyn Taylor

Marilyn Taylor retired in 2001 from her position as vice president of human resources for Excel Energy. During her 20 years in the Denver area, she has served on the boards of the Colorado Ballet, The Denver Zoo, The Women’s Foundation of Colorado and the Adult Learning Source. Since her retirement, she has served on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and the board of Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting – Channel 6. Ms. Taylor has won numerous awards, including the YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, the Frank Carr Community Service Award, and the 1997 Outstanding Business Woman of the Year Award.

Walt Vogl, DDS


Dr. Walt Vogl is a general dentist with a private practice in Castle Rock, Colorado. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado Health Science Center where he earned his DDS in 2004. He received a bachelor's of science in molecular genetics from the University of California at Davis in 1999. He is an active member of the Colorado Dental Association where he currently serves on the finance advisory committee. He is also a member of the Metro Denver Dental Society. From 1990 to 2000, Dr. Vogl was a mechanic for United Airlines in San Francisco. He flies helicopters and enjoys competitive water skiing.

Mark Wehrle

Mark Wehrle

Mr. Wehrle retired in January 2011 as a partner with the international accounting, auditing, tax and consulting firm of Deloitte & Touche. While with Deloitte, he supervised audits and provided accounting and business advice for clients primarily in the financial services industry, including insurance entities (life, health, HMO and worker’s compensation) and mutual funds. Following his retirement, he became an adjunct professor in the School of Accountancy at the University of Denver. He has consulted on accounting issues with companies and the Colorado Department of Regulatory Affairs. He is also a part-time residential real estate broker with RE/MAX Professionals. Mr. Wehrle is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Colorado Society of CPAs. He holds a BS in accounting from Southern Illinois University.
